I haven’t done much with my projects that were on my design wall since last week. But look at what Mother has done. She has started making a crib size string quilt from some red and blue strips that I had left over from a string quilt.
I can tell she is enjoying it so much. She just keeps humming & whistling at the same time, something that she does when she’s happy. A lot of my sister’s and I have inherited the same whistle/hum when we sew. It makes for a pleasant atmosphere.
Love the quilt and the sweet photo of your mom! I love the hum/whistle story too. I tend to hum when I'm stressed, and always the same odd few notes. Often I do it without even realizing it. I think my family can always tell when I'm under pressure---the humming gives it away.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this, Julia. I think you said your mother is 88. wow!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great quilt. I couldn't help but smile at the thought of your mother humming as she worked - my mom used to do the same. It was a wonderful sound.
ReplyDeleteI love the picture of your Mom. That's a happy heart that hums while she sews !
ReplyDeleteYour string quilts are great! Very inspiring! Love that you and your mother whistle--I do too!
ReplyDeleteThis is the sweetest picture, a happy sewing Mam! How precious.
ReplyDeleteI love her string blocks!
You're so fortunate to have your mom! What a sweet photo this is, and what a great memory this will always be for you. I wish I could meet her, she looks like a sweetheart.
ReplyDeleteI might be humming too if I was creating such a lovely quilt. Isn't it nice to have your Mom around and able to do this.
ReplyDeleteLove the photo of your Mum - my Mum used to talk to herself when I was young. It drove me nuts. I now of course talk to myself and the cat all day long. We laugh about it now. x
ReplyDeleteI too love this photo and everything it stands for. I fear my daughter (who is only 23) will just forget me. In this country We tend to shove aside the senior generation and as I get closer to being a senior, my heart goes out to them!!! I love her quilt too! She is lucky to have you for a daughter!!
