Popping in to show off my completed string top.
I added piano key borders top and bottom.
It now measures 60 by 65 inches.
I'm basting and quilting it this weekend.
Some people left comments saying they prefer using paper foundations instead of fabric.
I hate tearing off paper,
and because these fabric foundations are 1/4 inch smaller all around than the block,
I don't have the extra bulk in the seams allowance.
I think both paper and fabric have their advantages.
I'm machine quilting this, so I'm not worrying about the extra layer.
I really like the way you organized your strings, Brenda. The piano keys border is a smart addition. It will be a beautiful quilt when finished.
ReplyDeleteOh such a neat trick to those foundation seams...I'll have to try that one...
ReplyDeleteI am a definite fabric foundation (usually light muslin or leftover fabrics i don't like and wonder WHY I bought lol) lover. I think your quilt is just beautiful..all that vibrant color..beautiful job..hugs, Julierose
I don't like tearing papers either!!! Nice job :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteI love all the fabric and color, it's beautiful and so full of life.
Happy Quilting!
Connie :)
I have a scrappy mens shirt quilt going right now using an old flannel sheet instead of paper . Its a winter quilt and the extra layer will be welcome.
ReplyDeleteI wish I had thought to cut the flannel base smaller for the seems!!! great idea!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE HOW THIS TURNED OUT. I have so many strings I want to make into quilts. Have to finish xmas stuff first. Hope to join the String Thing group!!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is just stunning. Thank you for the tip about a smaller foundation. I use fabric....and will try your method.
ReplyDeleteI’m with you on the fabric backs, and the 1/4 inch space is a great idea.
ReplyDeleteI use fabric foundations, too! Who has extra time to tear paper off, right? I love how you used the black prints in this one, and the piano key border looks great. I think I'll borrow that idea!
ReplyDeleteStunning quilt Brenda!!! I too won't use paper, I use a very fine tear away interfacing or a slightly heavier one which is left in , no problems with washing.
ReplyDeleteI love the way you alternated the rows, such a different setting .
Now why hadn't I thought of making the background slightly smaller to keep the fabric backing out of the seams . . . geez. Such a simple solution to the age old problem. Thank you for sharing that tidbit!!!
