Christmas String Quilt

I had made this top over a year ago but I thought it needed to be bigger.

I had plenty of scraps to make it larger.

And I even had some extra blocks made.

So now it just adding some to it.

I had done a tutorial on this quilt and if you would like the pattern just go here.

And when I'm done with this one I have another string top I started that I needs to be finished.

Isn't it wonderful.

Commissioned Strings

I had an order for a string quilt and when I was finished with this top...

I thought maybe I'd better give more of a subdued choice to the client.

So, I did this one...

He liked the first one better.  Both are at the quilter's now.  They will be so much better when quilted!

I received the final packages of blocks today for our Half Log Cabin Challenge.  Big thank-yous to to Sharon, Evelyn, and Brenda for supporting this project with their bright fun blocks! I'll be assembling these blocks into a cheerful comfort quilt for an adult at our domestic violence shelter. 

 

I also received a bonus package from Julianne, containing a happy assortment of 9-patch blocks.  These will also be used to make comfort quilts for kids at the Doves shelter.  I'll post photos here of all the quilts as they develop.

 

 

It warms my heart, at this time when we're all saddened by the senseless violence in Boston, to have received all these blocks.  Thank you all for your generosity and kindness!

Just a final reminder that our half log cabin challenge will be ending very soon.  I don't think any more blocks are on their way ... and I'm ready to start assembling the ones I've received.  If you're still planning to mail some blocks, please let me know asap.  Otherwise, I'll get busy with the ones I have.

Amish Ice Cream Social

 

This is my first attempt at a string quilt, and won't be my last! I love to hand quilt but have never been a great piecer, strings have solved that problem for me!

More bright blocks!!

 

Woohoo -- a good mail day!  I received two more envelopes containing bright string blocks for our

 half log cabin challenge! 

 

Don't they all look wonderful together?  Happy thank-yous are being sent out to Em and Gwen >>>>>>>>>

 

And there's still plenty of time for more players to join us!  I won't start planning the quilt assembly until April, so if you're thinking about participating, send those blocks!

Audrey's two sided string quilt

My friend Audrey just finished this quilt-as-you-go double-sided string quilt.

It's green on one side, and brown and orange on the other.

I've folded it over on itself so you can see both sides in one photo.

I just finished the binding on my latest string quilt today. 

This one will be going to guild meeting with me tonight, to be donated as a comfort quilt.

Mother's Four Square Quilt

Mother has stuck with her string quilt and sewed and sewed. And now she already has it finished. We thought she was making this for charity; but recently I got to thinking that here she made this quilt when she is 87 years old, and I think  it needs to stay in the family as an heirloom. So she said I could have it. How about that?
