My First String of 2019

Happy New Year Everyone!!
A friend challenged me to get started in this new year. So I thought to make a string quilt because it's easy.
Here's what I've accomplished so far.
I used a type of tissue paper as a foundation. That's the white area you can see.

I like all the gray fabrics and was happy to use as many as possible in this project.

I'll need to make 3 more blocks to finish the top then add borders. The blocks are 9.5 inches unfinished.
There's more to see on my blog and the story behind these fabrics.

Green Strings with a Bit of Paper Piecing

It's the time of year to finish things up. Back in January I sewed all my strings into single color blocks. I used a few to make a baby quilt but the rest sat on the shelf. Until now.

Because they are the liveliest I pulled the greens first. Almost enough to make a toddler quilt. Two blocks short. But there were two purple blocks in the pile so they were added.

The red bits are a discarded paper pieced border from years ago. I sewed them in the middle of the blocks until there wasn't enough. You can see the last smidge in the top right corner, placed to use all of it. I didn't worry about centering properly or perfect points on the string blocks but think it looks fine.

The channel quilting was done with a walking foot. No measuring; just used the foot as a guide. After washing the quilting really stands out.

The binding came from my box of leftover binding bits. It's an easy finish for a soft toddler quilt.

More information on my blog here.

Happy Thanksgiving!

3 Fractured Diamonds

I was motivated to sew this past week and pumped out 3 fractured diamond quilt tops. More info can be found on my blog.
All strips are from my stash which now has a dent in the pile.
When quilted these quilt little quilts (36" sq) will be given to my helping hands group.
I'll be machine quilting each one on my Janome.
I hope everyone enjoys their week. It's raining here in central Texas which is very unusual in June but we are not complaining one little bit!!

From UFO with Love

This quilt is made from strips of fabrics I had sewn into tubes, cut into 2 1/2 inch sections......to be
un-sewed, if that's even a word and sewn into some other project.......that was two years ago. I found the tubes the other week when clearing out a UFO box. I know that no one else has ever had that happen!!
I immediately stopped clearing out things and got down to un-sewing, designing, then sewing the rows together. Of course there was not enough to make a good sized quilt so I added the green fabrics and the rest of the tubed strips. When I stood back, I
thought that the quilt still needed something.
Since this little project was going to my helping hands community project, I decided to add
ABC in artistic letters....someone is really going to love this little lap quilt.

Two Finishes

I finished the Emerald Jewel quilt by adding a stop red border followed by the piano keys.
This one measures 56 by 76 inches.

I've had this "ugly" fabric for a very long time, looked at it once in a while but nothing came to mind until I was working on the Emerald quilt. I remembered that the ugly fabric had touches of green so off I went.

I pulled some duller greens and black strips and got down to sewing.

After laying out my design I knew that I'd want to do a border and decided to continue the diamond into the border.

I am very happy with the results. Lots of extra designs within this quilt top.
It measures 45 inches square.
